I’m from a small island in the Caribbean’s called Puerto Rico, but in Prof. Hofstede National Culture information is not Puerto Rico, that’s why I’ll be using the island of Trinidad that is located in the Caribbean too. Both island are very independent and communication is very important. Puerto Rico is very attached to its culture, food, music and people.
->When it comes to Individualism, it all depends, depends on what group we are. If it’s on an employee group that people look out for themselves, since some people can be greedy and can do the impossible to get the person fired. But some groups can look for out for each other, for example the group of friends that you had made through the year, they will always be by your side watching over you. It all depends on the group and the people in the group.
-> In the aspect of Masculinity and Feminism Trinidad has a high score on masculinity and a lower score in feminism. In Puerto Rico both masculinity and feminism are successful and stand out in the crowd with no problem. There is almost no discrimination in this island for the success of both female and male.
-> The Power of Distance on both island are very a like in that aspect. They are very independent and have equal rights they. Puerto Rico is consider to be a colony of the United States and it is a Commonwealth. We have a government, which is the person who makes the decisions of the island.
-> Uncertainty Avoidance is minimum in Puerto Rico; we just let the future happen. But we can be very competitive with other countries, since we want to be seen for who we are and for all the good things we have done. It has been said that Puerto Rico can be consider one of the happiest country or island in the world and that we have the longest Christmas in the world. Security is very important for us, but we just let the future come we don’t plan it and live day by day.
Even thou I had to compare both Trinidad and Puerto Rico, I can see that they have some things in common. Always remember to not judge people because you’ve met people from the same place, get to know the person you never know what surprises you can find. 😉 I can say that I’m very happy and proud to say that I’m from that beautiful Caribbean island where the beaches relax you and the atmosphere is fun.
